Mid-Year Reset: A Fresh Look at Your Fundraising Plan

It’s officially mid-year — which means whether you run on a July–June fiscal year or a January–December calendar year, now is the perfect time to pause and ask:
What’s working with our fundraising? What’s not? And what needs adjusting to finish the year strong?
I know summer can feel a little “off-season” for fundraising. But it’s actually the perfect time to step back, regroup, and get clear on what you want the second half of your year to look like — before the fall chaos begins.
A mid-year review gives you the space to:
✅ Look back at your actual fundraising performance —not just what you hoped would happen.
✅ Celebrate wins and identify what’s repeatable.
✅ Identify what’s not working — like donor communications that didn't hit the mark or campaigns that didn’t fully deliver.
✅ Refocus your goals based on your capacity and the reality of your current momentum.
✅ Plan for the months ahead with intention instead of scrambling when Q4 rolls around.
So let’s check in — how’s your fundraising really going?
Are you on track with your revenue goals?
Do you know what’s performing well and what’s falling flat?
Have you built in enough stewardship to keep donors engaged between campaigns?
Are you feeling prepared for fall and year-end, or just hoping you’ll find the time to figure it out?
This isn’t about beating yourself up if things haven’t gone perfectly (spoiler alert: they rarely do). It’s about getting honest, making thoughtful adjustments, and resetting your focus with a plan you can carry through year-end.
Here's what I'd ask you to do this month:
Pull your fundraising numbers from January through June (or July–June if you're on a fiscal year).
Review your donor communications — how consistent have you been?
Write down what’s working, what’s not, and what needs your attention.
Block time in before the end of July to outline a plan for fall and year-end, before you’re knee-deep in it.
Because here's the truth: You can’t adjust your plan if you never pause long enough to look at it. And by the time September hits, your calendar will be full, your to-do list will be longer, and the opportunity to be proactive will have passed.
